NEW YORK

A weekend getaway for a New York City family, this Georgian-style new home has an inverted footprint. The front of the house faces the back property, and the back of the house faces the view and mountains beyond. In collaboration with Di Biase Filcoff Architects, our focus was working closely with the owners to establish a layout that worked for their weekend lifestyle, while keeping the footprint relatively compact. They wanted a relaxed style with distinct rooms that flowed easily from one to the other, while keeping the focus on the Berkshire hillsides. The house moves in tone from dark to light, and the living room is purposefully bathed in dark steel blue. As a room predominantly used at night, this allows the glow of the stars to remain the primary feature.
